Tuzza Traveller - Liz Fry - Week 2

So the second leg of my journey took me through the centre of the North Island, ultimately down to Wellington for the ferry over to the South.  Here are some gems I found along the way...

  1. Walking from Kinloch to Kawakawa Bay, is a ten kilometre walk one way, or even getting up to the top is worth it for a stunning view of the Lake.

  2. L’Arte - Like art and coffee?  This is the place for you, we were lucky enough to have live music when we were there too, and so much more than just coffee!  Gorgeous salads, wraps and more, beautiful ceramics and artwork all on display.

  3. Stopping off in Taumarunui before the Bridge to Nowhere and Forgotten Highway?  Or maybe keen for a few days get away, I stayed here for a few nights, a real gem of a place.

  4. Not usually talking about the main attractions, but if you are in Whakapapa the waterfall walk is a lovely 6-7km circular walk with some definite ups and downs, but worth it (I think!)

  5. Driving from Wanganui to Napier?  Got a bit of time, and the weather is good, take the Wanganui-Taihepe Road, stunning drive with clear view of the mountains and lovely spots to stop for pics or picnic.

  6. Brown Sugar Cafe in Taihepe is a lovely spot near the end of town, well worth a look in for a bite to eat or maybe some gift shopping....

  7. Arty As near the end of that drive has an absolutely amazing collection of work from mainly local artists and creatives.  Whether looking for souvenirs or something for a gift, I am sure you will find something here

  8. Chantals in Napier is a must for any health lover.  Cafe and shop combined absolutely stacked with great stuff, the weird and wonderful and more!

  9. Loving the use of containers over here and Red Bridge Coffee have it set up a treat.  Just before the turn off for Ocean Beach and Wairaarauma, great spot to stop for a quick bite and coffee to go

  10. If you’re in a camper or tent there is a beautiful campsite at Kairauku Beach.  Only taking cash, gives you an idea of the remoteness of the place.  Right at the beach edge, seems to be a hotspot for those with a boat.  Quiet and the real Kiwi life.

  11. A walk north of this beach will take you to Waterfall Bay, make sure you check out low tide otherwise it will be a scramble over the rocks.  Once at the bay you will see a path leading off in to the grass, follow that path and you will come to the waterfall, backtrack slightly going down the bank and over the river another 100 metres or so will take you to another one.  Don’t expect gushing waterfalls with torrents of water, but incredibly pretty.

  12. Ending up at Waimeha Camping Village, Cape Palliser, great spots for views, activities and sunsets, camping and cabins available great facilities
